There’s actually a TikTok trend going around where people imagine being interviewed for a Netflix documentary about something they’ve experienced. We thought it would be funny to try it with agency life, because honestly, there is enough material here for a whole series.
But the more we thought about it, the more we realised the interesting part isn’t really the work. It’s the culture that grows around it.
Agency spaces tend to attract people who are comfortable being themselves. You’ll have people with completely different personalities, styles and ways of thinking sharing the same space, and that freedom of expression becomes part of the culture. One day everyone is dressed completely differently; the next, somehow, the entire creative team has turned up in the same kind of outfit.
Then Friday comes around and by midday, you can feel the weekend beginning. People are still on their laptops, but there’s music in the air and a drink being poured somewhere in the corner. Nobody has officially clocked out, but the mood has changed.
Of course, the documentary wouldn’t only show the fun parts. Agency culture can also be intense. There are egos, pressure, long days, difficult conversations and moments when the freedom and creativity come with a cost.
And maybe that’s what would make the documentary worth watching. Not the polished version of agency life, but the contradictions. The creativity and the chaos. The freedom and the pressure. The people who make the place what it is.
Because agency culture is a world of its own.
So if your agency had its own Netflix documentary, what would it be called?
